Tell me about Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods.

Well it’s the search for the new star as Elle Woods on Broadway. It’s a bunch of girls from all over the US that are very talented and wonderful, and we get to watch them through the whole audition process.

What was it like for you to be on the other side of the audition table – to be hosting and not vying for the role?
It’s interesting. You know I feel like these girls are my peers. And any time I can be sitting in a casting office right next to any of them. So, I felt like I got to learn a lot from watching them go through the experience, and seeing it from the opposite side.

Do you ever want to hop up and start dancing and singing right with them?

A lot of people have asked me that. You know I didn’t. It was honestly so much about watching one of these girls on the verge of experiencing such a wonderful thing, and something that I was fortunate enough to experience. And it was such a special process, I didn’t think about it at all. It was all about watching them step into this role.

Do you have a favorite potential Elle?
You know, I actually haven’t seen the show yet because I’ve been flying from New York to LA a lot and moving. During the filming of the show, I had one favorite that I kind of watched through the process. And all the different producers of the show and everyone, who worked in the crew, had different favorites. And what’s funny is that none of us had the same person we were pulling for. So I think it was really anyone’s game until the very last episode.

What does it takes to be Elle Woods?
We were looking for somebody that was obviously a triple threat – someone who could carry the dancing and singing. But also someone who could carry the acting side. And also someone who brought a fresh and unique perspective to Elle – and made Elle her own. Not someone who came in and copied the actress before her.

What do you, Haylie, and Elle Woods have in common?
What do Elle and I have in common? I think drive. She’s very driven and motivated in her work and what she wants to do and what she wants to accomplish. She’s very goal-oriented and not scared to put in the work for all the things she wants. She’s a good person and a good-hearted person and has good intentions with everything she does. So, hopefully that’s my similarity with her.

What other movie would you like to see made into a Broadway show?

Oh my gosh. There’s a couple. I think probably my favorite one – is I would love to see Grease 2 as a Broadway show. I love that movie, and I love the music from it.

What’s your favorite girlie-girl movie?

Probably Drop Dead Gorgeous.

What summer movie are you dying to see?
I haven’t seen a movie in so long. I feel like I only see movies that I rent in hotel rooms. What’s a good summer movie? I haven’t seen the Sex and the City movie yet, and I definitely want to see that. And I don’t even know what’s coming out this summer, but I’m going to try to see some [movies].
Any fabulous summer plans?
I just moved into my house. So I think just enjoying my house and my pool. In LA they do this thing called the Hollywood Cemetery Screenings, and on the weekends they air old movies on a projector screen. And you go and sit n the Hollywood cemetery around all these famous people who are buried there. Hundreds of people come out on the weekends and watch the movies. And I think that’s what I’ll be doing most of this summer.

What’s your fashion must-have this summer?

I think – well I’m in New York right now – and it’s so hot. So here, little sundresses and cute flats and stuff like that. And in LA, I’ll probably do the same thing. I like hats too, so I’ll probably find some fun hats.

I know it’s sweltering in NYC right now, so what’s your summer, hot weather beauty routine?

I’m a big fan of less makeup in the summer. So I try to do – if I’m not working – I just do like tinted moisturizer and mascara and let my skin breathe. I think when you can see skin through makeup, that’s always pretty. I’ll probably try to do less makeup this summer.

And finally, how do you indulge yourself? Is it spa treatments or shopping sprees? How do you spoil yourself?

I’m working a lot this summer and I haven’t for the last couple of months. So I think my summer indulgence will probably be to just spend time at home, and be with my dogs, friends, family, and my boyfriend and do low-key stuff for me.
